One of the things that CYMK - Ukrainian Orthodox Youth do is serve the community through volunteerism and other efforts...this is an opportunity to serve the community outside of our church. On February 11th, a representative from Winnipeg Harvest spoke to the Cymkivtsi of both Holy Trinity Cathedral and St. Mary the Protectoress Sobor about the project. The project had been taken up by several schools, but CYMK is the first Church Youth Group in Winnipeg to participate in the project!
The basic idea behind Empty Bowls was simple. Cymkivtsi and some of the local parish priests and guests created and designed clay bowls on February 18th and March 11th.
On March 18, 2011 at 6 pm, CYMKivtsi hosted a simple meal of soup and bread to friends, family and our Orthodox family to bring awareness of hunger in our community. The Empty Bowls were auctioned on the night of the Soup and Bread Supper.
See our Slideshows below for our First workshop, Painting Workshop, Supper and Final Creations which were auctioned off and raised over $1000 dollars for Winnipeg Harvest as well as all the generous food donations received for Winnipeg Harvest
